Patriotic Tablescape

The Fourth of July is right around the corner. Do you have all your red, white, and blue ready for Independence Day? I recently picked up a couple things to spruce up my dining room table for the occasion, and I’m really loving how it turned out.

What do you think?! I got all of this up in time for Flag Day, and I’m liking it so much, we’ll see how long I leave it up. I took my red, gingham table runner that I made (YOU CAN FIND THAT TUTORIAL HERE), and filled a galvanized metal bucket with some American flags, added some mercury glass votives filled with blue hydrangeas for some extra blue, and accented the centerpiece with the blue, gingham napkins that I purchased from Amazon.

I love how it turned out with the mercury glass votives, and I’m happy that I’m finally using them for something because I purchased a bunch to use for my wedding reception back in 2015, and aside from letting people borrow them for their own receptions, they have just been taking up space in a cabinet in my laundry room. I need to start incorporating them into more around the house.

Now originally, I wanted to put two galvanized buckets of flags on the counter, but once I had it on there, I thought it was a little too busy…

See what I mean? Maybe if I used smaller galvanized buckets, but the smallest I could find at the time was a five quart size, so that’s what I went with. I found my buckets at Home Depot, in the paint section, for under $5 a bucket. I did like the way it looked from the head of the table though (see below)!

To get the American flags to stand up in the buckets I filled them with some random wine corks and bottle caps that I had lying around in my craft room. No I have not been hoarding corks and bottle caps around for years for some hypothetical, up-cycled craft that I might do at some point in the future. If you don’t have hoarding tendencies like me, you can fill your galvanized bucket with some floral foam, or gardening pebbles.

And don’t forget about your red white and blue attire for the weekend as well! This Boden (Santorini) one piece is my favorite swimsuit this year, and the colors are perfect for the Fourth of July (and Memorial Day/Labor Day) weekend.
