I have always wanted to reupholster a chair. I love sewing, fabric, and design, so updating old furniture has always appealed to me. Yes, I’ve done some dining chairs, but adding some new fabric to a cushion is pretty quick and simple. I found my first REAL upholstery project when my mother in law, Belle, gave us an old chair that she had in her kitchen.

When Belle offered us the chair, I wasn’t really a fan of the original fabric on the chair, but I thought that the piece had good bones, and that I could probably update it to incorporate it into our home somewhere. I decided on an ECRU AND WHITE GINGHAM FABRIC that I have featured previously on my post on MY TOP TIMELESS FABRICS FOR HOME PROJECTS from fabric.com.

This project was definitely challenging, and took me a while to complete (especially since my little one and puppy take up a lot of my time). The hardest part was figuring out how to put the back on a chair.
After watching several youtube videos, over and over, I finally built up the courage to just finish the project. If I messed up, I could always just tear it apart and try again…
On the back of the chair, I wanted to add a little personalization, so I added a monogram that is Will and My initials combined. What do you think about appliqués on furniture?
Here is a picture of the before and after!
IF YOU’RE THINKING OF TRYING SOMETHING LIKE THIS AT HOME, HERE ARE SOME YOUTUBE VIDEOS THAT I FOUND TO BE HELPFUL WHEN TEACHING MYSELF HOW TO DO THIS PROJECT.
