Beauty Rituals | Exfoliation

Beauty Rituals | Exfoliation

This beauty ritual kind of piggy backs off dry brushing, but I thought it needed it’s own post because there’s much more to exfoliation than a good dry brush. You also need to make sure you exfoliate your face, in addition to your body.

Face Exfoliation

When it comes to face exfoliation there are a few different ways to exfoliate, and I like to incorporate all of them into my beauty routine. The main tool I use is the Clarisonic Mia 2 electronic face brush.  FIND THEIR NEWEST MODEL HERE. I have been using this for about five years, and I love it! It really keeps my face smooth, and my pores small.

I use a face cleanser with the Mia. My favorites are ORIGINS CHECKS AND BALANCES frothy face wash and any OLAY FACE WASH.

In addition to the basics with the Mia 2, I like to use face, microdermabrasion scrubs. The face scrubs just feel really good on your face, and also helps keep your pores small. I usually wash my face in the morning with a good face scrub, and then use my electronic brush at night in the shower. I have used many different face scrubs in my day, from cheap ones from a drug store, to expensive ones from Sephora (because I’m a sucker for good marketing). I usually try to keep things within a reasonable price, however, when it comes to face scrubs. My favorite face scrubs (aside from just adding baking soda to  my regular cleanser) are the TATA HARPER Regenerating Cleanser and ST. IVES face scrub.

Ship’s Tip:

To get a good “microderm abrasion” effect without breaking the bank on pricy products, just add a little baking soda to your regular drug store face wash! You’ll love how it feels, and how it minimizes your pores.

To keep my skin bright and give myself a refresher when my skin is feeling dull, I also like to use an enzyme peel occasionally. Peels help speed up the exfoliation on your face. Not to mention, getting rid of all that dead skin build up helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles! The thing I like best about a good peel though, are the skin brightening effects. A peel that I really enjoy is the CAUDALIE Glycolic Peel.

Body Exfoliation

In addition to using a good loofah in the shower, and dry brushing my skin, I love a good body scrub! In my opinion, you just can’t beat that dewey, soft feel of your skin after exfoliating with a scrub made of rich oils that nourish your skin.

Scrubs can get expensive too (especially if you use them all the time like me), so I like to make my own! It’s super easy to do.

Here is the basic recipe I use:

  • 1 Cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 Cup olive oil
  • Essential Oil of your choice
  • 3 cups sugar (or a little more to reach desired consistency)

How to:

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, in a microwave safe bowl. Add olive oil, and essential oil of your choice. Stir in sugar gradually until you reach your desired scrub consistency. Store in an airtight container.

After giving yourself a good body scrub things can get a little slippery! To save yourself (or an unsuspecting spouse) a spill in the bathroom, give your tub/shower a quick wipe down when you’re finished bathing. I like to put dawn soap mixed with a little white vinegar in one of those dish washing greenies with the handle that you can fill with soap, and give the shower a quick once over before I turn the water off (if you’re in the tub, give it a quick scrub and rinse after the bathwater drains).

If you don’t want to make your own scrub, check out your nearest BUFF CITY SOAP!  They have so many great products, and amazing scents! They also host soap and bath bomb making parties, which look like a lot of fun!

What are your favorite products to cleanse and exfoliate your skin? Comment and let me know!
